Who is behind ALPINA+SANA
ALPINA+SANA was founded by scientists from the HSG and ETH. Today, 13 people from various fields are working to bring visibility to an issue that is often overlooked in the healthcare sector: malnutrition.
The name
ALPINA+SANA combines two words: “ALPINA” stands for the Alps, as our products are developed in Switzerland. “SANA” comes from Latin and means to heal.
Why we do it
Many of us have family and friends who have been affected by malnutrition. We have seen firsthand what it means when food becomes a burden in old age or during illness.
Between 20 and 60 percent of hospital patients, as well as more than half of older people in nursing homes and care facilities, are malnourished.
Our approach
We are developing a fully automated, AI-based nutrition tracker that detects how much a person actually eats and food for special medical purposes that not only helps treat malnutrition but also brings joy.
